ECC seizes contraband items worth about 1.98 Billion Birr within the seven months of the current fiscal year

According to the Ethiopian Customs Commission (ECC) report a total of about Birr 1,988,214,981 worth contraband items seized while smuggled within the seven months of 2020/21 fiscal year.
Contraband goods worth Birr 1,608,582,897 smuggled in and items worth Birr 379,632,084 smuggled out confiscated in different parts of the country.
Customs check point located in Hawassa, Jgjiga and Diredewa seized huge amount of smuggled in items whereas Moyale, Bole Airport and Hawassa checkpoints confiscated huge amount of exported contraband items.
Among the major items seized smuggled out of the country were drugs, currencies and minerals. On the other hand vehicles, cloths and electronics are the majority of items seized while imported into the country.
